Blackberry Blast

Blackberry SmoothieBlackberries are in full force right now so to celebrate I picked tubs-full and have been adding them to everything. As a firm believer in all things smoothie, I created an antioxidant-blast to kick off my busy day.

Blackberry Blast

  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 2 cups greens (spinach, kale, chard)
  • Banana (optional)
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • Tbps chia seeds
  • Honey, maple syrup or agave (optional)
  • Almond milk (until smooth)

“Man Alive” Avocado Smoothie

“Man alive” was the reaction when I slurped back my newest smoothie concoction. “I can’t believe it taste so good” was the quick follow-up comment. Looking for a way to fit in your Omega-6’s? Here’s a recipe that combines all the healthy fats into one glass.

Man Alive Avocado Smoothie

  • Avocado – half or full
  • Banana
  • Spinach – fistful
  • Lime – half, juiced
  • Hemp Hearts – tsp
  • Chia Seeds – tsp
  • Almond Milk

Why Omega-6? This essential polyunsaturated fatty acid helps to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, reduce inflammation, and protect against heart disease. Want more info on heart healthy fats? Check out the Harvard School of Public Health website.

Mango Mint Madness

Green Mango MintMinty madness is the first thing that popped into my head when I slurped back this delight. I LOVE mango lassies but wanted to sass this one up. Not only did I opt for a green version (kale) I also threw in some mint, just because. Since I had already eaten my quota of dairy for the day I steered clear of yogurt, as in a traditional lassi, and went for the all-out fruit and veg combo instead. Perfect for vegans! Alas, this was a delightfully fresh mid-day smoothie of green goodness. Enjoy!
